The 14-inch iPad Project in 2023: What You Need to Know
Apple had initially planned to release an iPad with a generous 14-inch screen this year, but plans appear to have gone in a different direction, as Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reveals.
Since 2021, the Apple firm has been mulling over the idea of a 14-inch iPad behind the scenes, but the story of this project took an unexpected turn, leaving it on hold... at least for the moment.
One major hurdle appears to be the transition to OLED displays for iPads, which could result in substantially higher costs for larger tablet screens. The next iPad Pros are rumored to offer a maximum size of 13 inches when released in the first half of 2024.
Currently, the largest iPad has a 12.9-inch screen. A transition to a 14-inch screen would mark a significant step, approaching the diagonal of MacBook Pro screens. The question that remains is whether Apple will later reintroduce this project or whether it has been abandoned for good.
However, the intrigue doesn't end there. The previous year, The Information reported on Apple's work on a 16-inch iPad, matching the size of the larger MacBook Pro. Today, it remains to be seen whether this model follows the same uncertain fate as the 14-inch iPad or whether it continues to be part of the company's future plans.
